The day the horses came to town

What an amazing day that I have had today .Firstly the phone goes and it's the local contractor wanting to know if I want a track cut ,well I DID so The two WWOOFers and I tear out to pull up all the loose wires in preparation ,that gets us to mid-day.Then the Otago Cavalcade ,70 odd horses and their odd riders come to town to have lunch at the school ,that made for a very colourful scene .The contractor then arrived with his MASSIVE tractor and cut a track in 30minutes that would have taken me 30 days ! finally just as I got back home I had a marvellous visit by two of Cams friend from New Plymouth .
All in all not bad for a quiet little country road in the backblocks of Central Otago !!

First frost !

First frost this morning !!! quite white ,but didn't seem to damage anything ,still far too early to be appreciated .Mind you we had an incredible day afterwards ,I just kept going out into it to luxuriate in the warmth ,it's not heat ,just comfort ,I could handle lots more of it . At the moment I am on my own and trying to tidy up the "Merry-go-round"
make it so that I can run the mower around the inner circumference of the trees .One more prune and I will be able to walk under them without ducking ,the tallest has to be 5m at least .Finally the place is looking healthy ,most of the trees are sporting some new growth and should be fine by the Autumn .I've tried to capture the light in todays photos ,but not very successfully . Cheers and Beers .

Valentines day.

I hope that you all got a red rose with your breakfast this morning !
The early morning here was amazing ,the sun is so strong and the mist comes off the pond like steam .My pond would love to have a few more goldfish in it if anyone has any .
I finally finished watering ALL the trees and mowing ALL the lawns today ,so let the weather do its damdest, the trees are finally putting on some new leaves and growth so I hope that they have time to harden up before the early frosts ! But Cambrian looks and smells beautiful[unlike me !!!!]

Home sweet home

Hey .. I've just been eye-balling a great big FERRET in my kitchen ,I thought it was a rat ! they don't have any fear ,but I'll catch him !
I got home on Sunday afternoon ,after 10 days away ,and was blown away with how lush the place was ,green grass 5inches tall and fresh leaves on all the trees ,the summer had hit at last ,a whole week of 30 pluses whilst I was away ,it was a great sight ,I'm so much happier now seeing the trees with at least a few leaves on them .I'll water them all tomorrow and with a bit of luck we'll still have a couple of weeks of heat .
Went to Sunil and Yu Kuans wedding in Papakura ,that was a great affair ,visited my Mum for a few days in Waihi and finally made it to Tiri tiri Matangi for a visit ,what a fabulous place ,I wish that we had some birdsong like it around here . Cheers

Did summer start today ????

Evening all , so much has been happening lately that I don't know where to start .Cam came home for a few days which was VERY pleasant ,but he's back now helping to run a science camp for the week.We had a very nice WWOOFer from Canada, but life in Cambrian was Too exciting for her and she's headed back to a festival in Takaka,[could Takaka be more enthralling than Cambrian ?????]
Saw a fantastic doco on China last night made by a Canadian photographer,it was mind blowing stuff and if you are interested I'll find out his name . Finally the trees are starting move a little ,but not before time ,I hope that we might have a month of warm weather before the autumn creeps in ,
